Award Ceremony the third edition of the

Self M-aid Award 2025

This year, SIGEP in Rimini once again hosted a special event for our Foundation: the awards ceremony for the third edition of the Self m-aid Award, the Carlo Mendozzi ETS Foundation's annual prize for young gelato and pastry entrepreneurs.

This event grows in popularity with each passing year, with the aim of recognizing those who have the courage to transform an idea into a business, and especially those who choose to do so with a fresh vision, focusing on innovation, sustainability, inclusion, and social impact.

First Prize went to Daniela Landonio (Gorla Minore, Varese), creator of INSIDE AUT – Social Gelateria for Inclusion: a project that aims to create an artisanal gelato shop run by young people with autism spectrum disorder, supported by trained staff. A concrete and structured idea, already underway with training programs, which demonstrates that inclusion is not a slogan but a daily commitment based on skill, courage, and vision.

Second Prize went to Aaron Zarfati (Milan), of the Congelato group and creator of Gelato Week, a traveling event that combined gelato, culture, and innovation, involving multiple cities and thousands of visitors. A project born authentically and self-financed, but already focused on growing and becoming an increasingly national event.

Third Prize went to Martina Francesconi (Genoa), founder of GELATINA – Frutta Libera: an initiative that aims to map and promote the often-forgotten wild fruits found in urban areas. With her "Urban Orchard," Martina has created a collaborative network between communities, agronomists, and institutions, transforming biodiversity and the landscape into a resource and paving the way for future developments, also thanks to participatory digital tools.

In addition to the winners, other extraordinary projects were also recognized.

The Young Talent Award was presented to German Peter Telgmann, who offers an innovative model featuring artisanal gelato in transparent, reusable tubs, combining authenticity, sustainability, and an advanced distribution support system for professionals. This is an example of how passion, determination, and entrepreneurial spirit can pave new paths in the industry.

The major innovation of this edition was the introduction of the Inclusion and Sociality Award, presented to Antonio Mezzalira of the Golosi di Natura gelateria (Piazzola sul Brenta, Padua), for his ability to transform gelato into a gesture of closeness and hope, capable of bringing light even in the most difficult moments, such as those experienced by children treated in hospital wards.

Finally, the Special Mention was awarded to Alessandro Zoli of Peace and Cream (Faenza), for a project that combines supply chain sustainability, food recovery, and social inclusion: a concrete demonstration of how gelato can become an ethical gesture, capable of valorizing raw materials, the local area, and people.

One of the Foundation's primary objectives remains to offer concrete support to young entrepreneurs, helping them shape their ideas and transform their talent into a real, sustainable, and lasting path.

We will continue to support new players in the sector with the next edition, which will be presented in the coming months.
